I found this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . This lead to an idea vehemently expelling itself from the bowels of my brain. Jalopnik should do comparisons between old and new models of cars.
It would be great to have an test between a vintage Beetle and a new one, an NA Miata and an NC, older Mustang and a brand new one, and so on.
I will be the first to offer a Jalopnik author a drive in my 180,000 1996 328i, so that they can compare it to a brand new one. I would try to do the test myself, but there are things holding me back: 1. I suck at writing things (Hooray Dyslexia!) 2. The BMW Store would probably laugh at me for asking to drive a new car 3. Did I mention that there are much better writers than me?
So, could this be done?

That's not a bad idea, may borrow it for myself! haha My buddy and I filmed a Cayman review in the fall. Some of the scenes didn't tape properly though so we have been looking to reshoot. It was a "proof-of-concept" film, always looking for good ideas like this to use as inspiration!

I would love to take part in an idea like this, I'm sure others here would be just as inclined to lend a car for science.

Yep, getting access to cars is the the tricky part. Oppo could probably rally up quite a few options depending on geographic area. DC/MD/VA seems to have a large contingent.

That they do, but I'm in another tri-state area...:(

This is a great idea; I fully support it.

I think their stance on these is something like: "All old/new comparisons are useless because we'll alway say the old car has more character and less weight while the new car offers the conveniences and technology of today's world"

But, it's the perfect demonstration of evolution.

Yeah, but Motor Trend and its brethren have overdone these reviews, and I feel as though Jalopnik is trying to avoid that image. However, if there were a way to put a new twist on an old topic I could see it happening...

That's why I'm suggesting readers rides for this, they can be pristine or worn. Also Motor Trend and like, don't have the talent of Jalopnik writers, their blend of humor, sarcasm, and facts can't be touched.
